The Story
Sunflower Sunshine was inspired by a drive through Kansas on my way from Cincinnati to Denver. As the landscape opened before me, I passed fields of sunflowers stretching toward the horizon, their bright yellow faces standing against the enormous blue sky.
That joyful image stayed with me. When I designed this quilt, I wanted to capture the warmth, color, and sense of sunshine I remembered from those Kansas fields. The rich batiks and appliquéd sunflowers became my way of preserving an unexpected moment of beauty from a long journey west.
