What are Commissioned Quilts?

A commissioned quilt is created especially for you. You might already have a pattern you love, be inspired by a quilt in my gallery, or simply have an idea you’d like to turn into a quilt.

We’ll work together to choose the size, style, colors, fabrics, and design. For example, I can follow an existing pattern or develop an original design, using techniques such as traditional patchwork, appliqué, foundation paper piecing, or a combination of techniques.

The result is a quilt top made specifically for you—whether you’re looking for something traditional and vintage-inspired, modern and graphic, or somewhere in between.

Quilting and binding are separate services and can be added to complete your quilt.

YOUR

STYLE

Traditional, Modern, or Somewhere in Between

Quail family nestled in grass between Southwestern medallion blocks

Quail Quilt · Original Design · 52" x 64"
Mixed techniques: appliqué in the center panel and medallions; foundation paper piecing in the medallions; strip piecing in the chevron and zigzag dividers.

Your quilt can reflect the style you love and the way you want it to feel. From familiar traditional patterns to bold contemporary designs, I can use a variety of techniques—or combine several—to create a quilt that is uniquely yours.

Patchwork
Traditional blocks, geometric designs, and pieced patterns.

Appliqué
Layered fabric shapes for pictorial and decorative designs.

Foundation Paper Piecing
Precise piecing for detailed designs, unusual angles, and sharp points.

Strip Piecing
Fabric strips are sewn together and cut into units to create repeating patterns, movement, and bold geometric designs.

Mixed Techniques
A combination of methods when the design calls for something more individual.

The technique is part of the design process—I choose the methods that best bring your quilt to life.

QUILT

PRICING

What Will My Quilt Top Cost?

Because every project is different, the final cost depends on the size of the quilt, the complexity of the design, the fabrics selected, and the techniques involved.

LAP

$350 – $650

TWIN

$500 – $850

QUEEN

$750 – $1,200

KING

$950 – $1,500+

What affects the price?

Straightforward patchwork and strip-pieced designs will generally fall toward the lower end of the range. Original design work, intricate piecing, appliqué, foundation paper piecing, and mixed techniques may increase the cost.

Pricing shown is for the design and construction of the quilt top. Fabric, quilting, and binding are additional. You’ll receive a personalized estimate before work begins.

COMMON

QUESTIONS

What You May Want to Know

1. How long does it take to make a commissioned quilt?

The timeline depends on the size and complexity of your quilt and my current schedule. A simpler quilt may take several weeks, while a large or intricate quilt may take several months. I’ll give you an estimated timeline before work begins.

Yes. If you see a quilt in my gallery that you love, I can create a similar quilt in the size, colors, and fabrics you choose. Because each quilt is handmade, yours will have its own individual character.

Absolutely. If you already have a quilt pattern you’d like me to use, I can make your quilt from that pattern. If you have your own design, we can also discuss how to turn it into a finished quilt.

4. What if I have an idea but no pattern?

That’s fine. Tell me what you have in mind, and I can develop an original design for you. We’ll work together on the style, size, colors, fabrics, and techniques before I begin construction.

Yes. Your preferences are an important part of the design process. You can choose specific fabrics and colors, give me a general palette to work from, or ask me to make recommendations.

No. Commission pricing covers the design and construction of the quilt top. Quilting and binding are separate services, allowing you to choose the quilting style and binding finish that best suit your quilt and your budget.
